hi! i received this as part of the wiggle bird mailing club and wrote a short review/analysis of it on my site: https://www.beesmygod.com/can-you-find-alissa-may-by-tyler-solomon/ (ignore the blog name lol, i enjoyed the comic quite a bit!) thank you very much for sharing this with us all.

thank you so much for the review!! it means a lot to see some of the more subtle elements came across haha, i’m so glad you enjoyed it!

SUCH a cool read! the limited color palette and your use of it was insanely effective, the paneling was awesome-- the pervasive presence of the imagined alissa may and how it dominates the page feels suffocating, especially with the panel where she was trapped in the shape of her (genius)

and your expressions. ooooh my god your expressions and the subtle details you use to make things uncanny

overall i really love how you set the tone too. this really felt like watching someone's life fall apart in a voyeuristic way while the dread of realizing where it's going sets in. i'm not usually one for short-form storytelling but this stuck out to me; consider me a big fan of your work! promise i won't stalk you about it 😳

thank you so much!

I bought this out of curiosity. I realise you have to cut and paste bits, but I couldn't figure it out. Not worth the money IMO.

hi! i’m a little confused by your comment, there’s nothing to copy or paste in the comic so there might’ve been a problem with your file?

ah OK then I am confused, it looked like there were instructions about turning pieces and then cutting round and rectangular areas. If there is no hidden meaning in the comic, then it just doesn't make sense, it's just random text and drawings rhen. I thought it was some kind of puzzle game. Even the title suggests it. The front cover has mixed up squares, I ws cutting these and trying to rearrange. And the I was trying to make 'her perfect face'. Then you have arrows pointing to a round gap (something goes here). Then fingers showing to shrink and enlarge pieces. Then the mystery with May Bells - there is another page with bells on it.  Then'throw away old clothes', I took that to mean cut out pieces that arent covered by clothing. And then finally turn right, I was thinking that meant rotating something. But if I'm barking up the wrong tree then I really don't get it. How can we find if there is nothing hidden there ? The story itself just doen't make any sense. Well there is no story, unless I'm missing something.

bro failed entry level artistic comprehension but i commend the level of creativity needed to get here

Well, the title and some othe content makes it sound like a puzzle to be solved. That's mainly why I purchased, ,that was my expectatiob. As an artwortk, I don't know what to make of it. Is there a narrative hidden there, or we to interprite it as a suqence of disjoint imags and phrases. If that's the case the we must judge purely on the artwork, which frankly I would say is little more than some random doodles and a psiche if disjoint train of thought, that doesn't really lead us anywhere. In that case $*.00 to buy a copy of an artisrts aimless doodlings does seem a bit of a stretch. If I've missed anything the perhaps you  would be so kind as to explain to me. Be sure to use simple words as I did indeed fail aretistic comprehension 101.

maybe inspiration for a future comic ! Hide pieces of text and image inside the other pages and leave clues. Then by cutting and pasting and combining images, the mystery is unravelled. (eg cut this piece of text from page 7, and overlay some text on page 3). Same with images. Then people can either print it out and cut it up physically, or use photoshop etc. Make it a bit cryptic so the reader has to solve puzzles to figure what to cut and where to place it. Then gradually the hidden plot and images (hidden between the pixels) is revealed. Now that would be a really fun an unique concept IMO. If you want to of course - but you could do a whole series. Think about it same artwork, but a mystery within a mystery.

Really really loved this one, I was watching for a bit on tumblr waiting for it to come out and im so glad I did. Im really enamored specifically by the use of swirling lines and loose curvy shapes through/across the pages and leading up to the eventual reveal at the end of what the protag is doing. Huge fan of the use of youtube/video player/social media visuals throughout panels, it all comes together in a very distinct visual language. Definitely gonna be a reread!

thank you so much! i'm so glad you enjoyed it
